
About the Gutierrez family...
Dr. Rick Gutierrez was born in California and moved to Michigan as a teen. He graduated from the University of
Michigan, Ann Arbor with a B.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology. He did research in breast cancer
immunology at the Michigan Cancer Foundation. He received his medical degree from the University of
Michigan Medical School. He completed his residency in Family Medicine from Michigan State University in
Kalamazoo, Michigan. He worked in private medical practice for four years in the state of Michigan,
Dr. Anita Gutierrez was born in Ireland and moved to Michigan as an infant with her Hungarian immigrant parents.
She graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor with a B.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology. She
received a medical degree and completed her residency in Family Medicine from Wayne State University School
of Medicine, Detroit, Michigan. She worked in private medical practice for seven years in the state of Michigan.
Rick and Anita were married in 1990, and have two sons. They began missionary service in Durban, South Africa
in 2002. They feel the Lord has set them apart for the work of equipping local churches for lay health ministry.
Rick enjoys fishing and water pursuits. Anita's hobbies include cooking, reading and playing the organ. They both
enjoy walking. The family likes to go hiking and camping. Marc likes playing cricket, field hockey, rugby, running
cross-country, reading, legos and his budgies. Paul likes drawing, swimming, rugby, legos, reading, rocks, and
cockatiels.
